Three Blasts Hit Near Cairo University

Egypt suffered another hard day on April 2 as three blasts hit near Cairo University killing at least one police officer and injuring five others, although that number could increase. A fourth device was deactivated and 15 students are being held in questioning over the attacks.

The bombs were remotely detonated killing Brigadier General Tarek El Mergawi, head of West Giza investigative police.

Since the June 30 ousting of president Mohammed Morsi, Cairo University has remained an area of conflict. The university was one of the main sit-in areas for Morsi supporters alongside Muslim Brotherhood stronghold, Rabaa Al Adawaya. Violent clashes ensued in both areas when Egyptian military forces cleared Morsi sympathizers from Rabaa and Cairo University.
