Tideland Lights Sudan Harbors with Solar

The main port of Sudan, Bur Sudan, will get three new towers to mark the entrance to the harbor, and Tideland Signal Ltd. will equip those towers with its solar-powered lanterns.

The towers, 10 meters high and constructed in Italy by Floatex SRL, each carry a Tideland ML-300 lantern that contains a TF-3B omnibus flasher, lampchanger, six 12-volt lamps, and leveling hardware. Power is supplied by two 20 MW solar modules mounted on a galvanized steel frame at the top of the tower. The TF-3B MicroPower Omnibus II flasher/lampchanger fitted in the lanterns incorporates a timer circuit card which permits input voltages up to 36 volts and provides up to 256 user-selectable flash codes.

Tideland Signal Ltd. is a British-based member of Tideland Group based out of Houston, Texas, which specializes in the design and manufacture of aids to marine navigation. The company also provided lanterns to guide the way for Ghana’s historic Jamestown lighthouse.
