Jovena, a subsidiary of the Axian group, commissioned two thermal power plants with a total capacity of 76 MW in Madagascar. The Noor 1 and Noor 2 have a combined capacity of 76 MW and will power more than 35,000 homes in the island nation.
The project, which entered its construction phase at the end of 2015, mobilized more than 450 people. Both plants had an implementation cost estimated at $80 million. "We are very proud today to realize this ambitious project that will allow Malagasy people in the region to benefit from access to efficient electricity. Madagascar’s energy revolution is just beginning,” said HassaneinHiridjee, CEO of Axian Group.
The development of these two plants was part of the investment strategy of the group that wants to contribute to the development of the electricity sector, started by the government. In this context, the company will also proceed with the construction of a 110-MW hydroelectric power plant in the Toamasina region.
