UAE’s Bid for IRENA HQ Gains Support from Turkey and Angola

Founding member of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Turkey, along with Angola, is backing the UAE in its bid to house IRENA’s headquarters. Although Angola is yet to become a member of the organization, the country expressed its support to see the Gulf region as the center of new technologies and also contributing to the global economic development and protection of the environment.

Gulf News reported that major IRENA members like Italy, Dominican Republic, Armenia, Kenya, Afghanistan, and Pakistan have already announced their support to the UAE and several others are considering it seriously.

About 98 member countries of IRENA will meet in Sharm el Shaikh, Egypt over June 29-30 to choose the headquarters.
