Uganda set up a partnership with the UK to accelerate universal access to energy through solar power. The partnership between the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and the United Nations Capital Development Fund in Uganda will be implemented through the Uganda Solar Energy Association (USEA).
"With a well-functioning USEA, we will be able to increase the number, performance and investment in solar home companies. Combined with other initiatives such as the "On and Off-Grid Small Scale Renewable Energy in Uganda" project, this collaboration will bring clean energy to 200,000 households and businesses,"said Peter West. the High Commissioner of the European State to Uganda.
Uganda currently has an electrification rate of about 20%, according to the World Bank, and in rural areas that are home to more than 50% of the 41 million Ugandans, households are lit up with kerosene.
