The Ugandan government will borrow $287 million from the Exim Bank of China, as part of its electrification process. "As a government, we are negotiating with the Bank to ensure that the funds are secure for the electrification of our rural areas," said David Bahati, the country’s finance minister.
The funds will help light up 287 communities in the island regions of Karamoja and West Nile.
Uganda’s goal is to achieve universal access to energy by 2040.
