UK vs China: The Battle for Ethiopia’s RE

China has got its hands in many renewable energy projects in Ethiopia, particularly hydropower; however, the UK is looking to gain its share of the renewable energy supply in the country.

The government has expressed willingness to work with Ethiopia on further driving its renewable energy market, and the Brits anticipate accelerating this by partnering with local counterparts. The UK State Minister for Energy and Climate Change Gregory Barker and other representatives have been traveling throughout East Africa on a renewable energy hunt.

This could possibly step on the toes of China; however, if the UK wants to outbid China for any projects in the pipeline, it had better get its pocket books ready.
