Umeme Ltd., Uganda’s largest electricity distribution company, plans to invest $155 million in upgrades during 2018. The funds will be used specifically for the rehabilitation of the old distribution networks and the construction of new electrical substations.
According to Samuel Zimbe, CEO of the company, this investment plan has already been submitted to the Electricity Regulatory Authority and its implementation depends on its approval.
Umeme operates the distribution network of Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Ltd. (UETCL), under a 20-year concession agreement, entered into in March 2005.
