The Coega Development Corporation (CDC), operator of the Coega Industrial Development Zone (IDZ), announced that Nelson Mandela Bay is well on its way to become the country and continent’s hotspot for “green” energy components manufacturing and technologies.
CDC investment manager Sandisiwe Ncemane said that investments attracted to the Coega IDZ over the past year include a $62-million solar module manufacturing facility by JA Solar and Powerway. In addition, a $12-million renewable energy components manufacturing facility by Powerway and Sungrow will come online by 2015.
A ground-mounted solar energy harvesting plant was commissioned as well as the $28 million DCD Wind Towers production facility – estimated to have an annual production output of 110 to 120 wind towers.
