A video was released of French national Francis Colump who was kidnapped on December 19, 2012 by Islamist splinter group Ansaru. Colump, an employee of the French wind energy company Vergnet, was taken hostage at his residence close to the Niger border while working on the firm’s Nigeria’s Kastina wind project.
If the video is authentic, it will be the first visual sign of life from the hostage since he was taken 10 months ago. The footage claiming to have been shot on September 25 had Colump saying, “It is urgent that my family and friends and my fellow citizens of France and anyone else that can do something. The French and the Nigerian governments should [get involved] for my sake and [pursue] negotiations for my safe release, please.”
A French foreign ministry spokesperson said that the video was being analyzed and the government would take every measure to free Colump.
