Vivo Energy Morocco and Green Energy Park (GEP), Africa’s leading research and innovation platform in solar energy, energy efficiency and sustainable mobility, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to cooperate in the study and implementation of projects in the fields of energy transition and green mobility.
Among the projects targeted by the partners: the deployment of various solar technologies as well as charging stations for electric vehicles, for which GEP owns an industrial production line.
“The signing of this agreement is part of the Vivo Energy Group’s sustainable development strategy, which aims to promote the energy transition and develop the place of green mobility, i.e. practical mobility that respects the environment and the quality of life. The Kingdom of Morocco is at the forefront in this regard. It is an important milestone for us to support this eco-responsible vision that is implicit in the development of all our activities,” says Peyami Oven, Managing Director of Vivo Energy Morocco.
Vivo Energy Maroc is fully committed to an environmental approach affecting its entire ecosystem, including its network of service stations, its depots and filling centers, and its partners. Among the projects launched as part of this approach, the installation of eco-responsible equipment and services in its service stations with the ambition to equip, each year, 30 Shell PV stations covering up to 30% of their energy needs. Similarly, all Vivo Energy Maroc sites are certified ISO 14001 V.2015, the highest environmental management standard. The company also has a greenhouse gas emissions reporting plan with the objective of raising its ambition and gradually transforming its activities by focusing on other environmental aspects such as waste management and water management.
The Green Energy Park is a unique model that combines R&D, training, and valorization in cutting-edge sectors related to renewable energies and the green economy, and we are very pleased today to engage with Vivo Energy Morocco in a partnership to develop innovative projects that contribute to energy transition efforts and carbon footprint reduction.
“Through this partnership, Vivo Energy Maroc demonstrates its commitment to contribute its offer of products and services, as well as its network coverage to serve the territories of the Kingdom as part of a sustainable development approach. We can thus accelerate the deployment of energy solutions capable of supporting the energy transition of our country by relying on the expertise of a major player in energy distribution,” says Mostafa Benzaazoua, General Manager of the Green Energy Park.
A pioneer in Africa, GEP is a platform for testing, research and training in solar energy present throughout the value chain of green innovation. It was initiated by the Institute for Research in Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN) and the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) with the support of the Ministry Energy Transition and Sustainable Development and the OCP Group. This platform is the first of a whole network of research structures, including the Green & Smart Building Park, dedicated to green buildings, energy efficiency, smart grids and sustainable mobility, as well as the Green H2A, dedicated to the current theme of green molecules.
The partnership between Vivo Energy Morocco and the Green Energy Park is also an example of collaboration between R&D platforms and companies for the development of energy transition solutions. Cooperation between the two partners will strengthen the Kingdom’s efforts to achieve its sustainable development goals.
