Wind Turbine Approved for Illinois High School

Just to prove how far it will go to institute renewable energy resources, the Community Unit School District 300 Board of Education in Carpentersville, Illinois has unanimously elected to erect a wind turbine in hopes to generate enough energy to power Hampshire High School and Wright Elementary School.

The wind turbine will be a part of Dundee-Crown High School’s renewable energy curriculum alongside its already-installed solar panel system, costing about $14,633 for installation with most of the cost potentially being covered by a $10,000 grant provided by the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation. The school will find out if it has been approved for the grant by March. Johnson Controls has donated an addition $5,000 to the project with Monarch Renewable Energy of Elgin offering to install the turbine and provide five free annual inspections.
