Zambia Closing in on Feed-in Tariffs

Zambia is moving closer to have a Renewable Energy Feed-in Tariff (REFIT) in place. The country’s Ministry of Mines, Energy, and Water Development and USAID are said to be in the final stages of developing the REFIT, the Lusaka Times reported.

The country’s Department of Energy and the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has been working with the USAID’s Southern Africa Trade Hub for over a year to produce an inclusive policy document and develop a platform for the REFIT.

Zambia’s adoption of an effective REFIT policy and the finalization of the feed-in tariff regulations will enable the Zambian government to buy renewable energy from small-scale IPPs at pre-determined prices.
