Zambia Plans New Hydro and Thermal Projects

Zambia plans to start building two power generation plants that will add 550 megawatts (MW) of electricity to its national grid once completed. One of the plants with be a 300-MW thermal power station and the other a 250-MW hydropower station, located in the southern and northern Zambia respectively.

The news of the planned power plants was revealed by Zambia’s Finance Minister Felix Mutati, who said that projects would start in 2018.

Mutati also revealed that Zambia and Zimbabwe have started preliminary financing arrangements for the joint 2,400 MW Batoka hydropower project.
