Zambian-based Copperbelt Energy is looking to help Sierra Leone develop around 750 MW of installed capacity over the next five years. The firm will sell 50 MW to the government in the first stage of a thermal power plant.
The country’s Minister of Energy OluniyiRobbin-Coker said that Sierra Leone has 96 MW of installed capacity, about 200 MW short of demand. He added, “Hydro is by far the most expensive to build but the cheapest to operate. So it’s now all about how do we mobilize the capital to build it.”
