Zambian Native Gives Back a Little Green

Son of the first African lawyer in Zambia, Thomas Chona has brought his training as a PV technician back to the southern African nation. Chona, who resides in Ontario, enrolled in an alternative energy engineering technology program at Lambton College to learn more about bringing solar technology to Zambia.

With the help of his church, Royal View Pentecostal, and GlobalLight Projects (GLP), Chona was sent to make his dream a reality: installing solar panels on school rooftops. “It’s a way of giving back… I grew up there,” he said. The first school to receive help from Chona is in his hometown, also named Chona. The GLP will send Chona back to help equip other area schools with solar panels.
