The upgrade project is expected to boost the power of the station’s generation capacity by about 120 megawatts (MW) of electricity and would cover a 350-kilometer transmission line to the national grid.
Zesco and Tata Africa Holdings constructed the $150 million hydropower plant, located on the Kafue river, after signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) back in November 2006.

President Mwanawasa announced that the Government recently entered into an investment partnership with Tata Zambia, in which the giant manufacturing company would open new industries in the country’s agricultural, mining, and hydro-electricity power sectors.
