In Zimbabwe Zesa Holdings entered into a deal worth $15 million to refurbish units five and six at the Hwange Power Station. A spokesperson for the company, Fullard Gwasira, confirmed that the agreement with Zimasco Holdings had been concluded.
“We would like to confirm Zesa has only entered into an agreement with a mining house, Zimasco for the refurbishment of unit number five and six at Hwange Power Station,” Fulard Gwasira told the Herald.
The power station has been under going a series of maintenance and rehabilitation projects. The first stage was part of a $50 million inter-utility deal between Namibia Power Company (NamPower) and Zesa. Under the inter-utility deal NamPower assisted the Zimbabwean company to refurbish units one to four. Refurbishment of unit three was completed early this year. Completion of maintenance at Hwange is expected by the end of the year.
Recently, Energy and Power Development Minister Mike Nyambuya told reporters at a press conference that the rehabilitation of unit five and six would boost electricity supplies.
