Zimbabwe’s Kariba South Hydropower Project was inaugurated by the country’s recently installed president, Emmerson Mnangagwa. The inauguration sees units 7 and 8 of the plant online contributing an additional 300 MW, increasing the capacity of the infrastructure to 1,050 MW.
The expansion project led by the Chinese company Sino Hydro Corporation, had an estimated cost of $533 million. This financing was provided for $319 million by the Exim Bank of China and the balance was provided by Zimbabwe Power Company.
