Without any IPPs being awarded this year, the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera) continues to review applications.
In 2013, three IPPs were awarded. ZeraCEO Gloria Magombo said that companies apply, but usually are not able to meet all the requirements. She said that by the time the IPP gets the license, Zera wants to make sure the winners have the capacity to implement the project.
Magombo did not give insight into the particular companies vying for bids, but said that she hoped that in November more information would be released.
IPPs currently operating in Zimbabwe include Triangle, Hippo Valley, Chisumbanje, and three IPPs for Nyangani Renewable Energy (Pvt) Ltd.
