The USTDA awarded a grant to OnePower Lesotho to carry out feasibility studies for the construction of a photovoltaic plant. The potential project, with a planned capacity of 20 MW, would be located in the west of the country.
This study will be conducted by the US consulting firm CDM International (CDM Smith). It will finalize the preparatory work and begin the financial mobilization phase.
"Our partnership with OnePower and CDM Smith will help transform Lesotho's energy sector. It will also demonstrate that US expertise can contribute to sustainable infrastructure development," said Thomas Hardy, the acting executive director of USTDA.
The construction of this plant is part of the national goal of achieving 90% access to electricity, by 2020, with the production of 200 MW of electricity, from renewable sources.
