Libya’s General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) said clashes in the southern parts of the capital have forced the company to resort to the load shedding system and obstructed the maintenance plans in some generation units.

GECOL clarified in a statement that many of its staff were unable to perform their work, in addition to the departure of all foreign companies supervising the maintenance of several generation units.

The company explained that current high temperatures and the excessive consumption of energy has led to a decrease in power generation by 440 MW.
