A formal agreement was reached on April 13 between Cameroon, Moroccan Platinum Power, and Eneo Cameroon (a subsidiary of British fund Actis) concerning the future power purchase agreement for the Makay hydroelectric complex.

Eneo director general, Joel Nana Kontchou, said, “the concern in this project is to negotiate with the developer a tariff of purchase of energy that is compatible with the power of the project. “We welcome the joint vision of the parties with a view to implementing the Makay project as soon as possible, thus contributing to the strengthening of energy supply in Cameroon.”

The Makay complex, located on the Nyong River in the Nyong-et-Kelle department, will develop an estimated capacity of 400 MW. This translates into access to electricity for six million people.

The foundation stone is expected to be laid this year and the plant is expected to be operational in H2 2023. Platinum intends to sell the renewable energy produced at Makay to Eneo.
