GE Renewable Energy and the Addis Ababa Institute of Technology (AAIT) signed a MoU to frame an ongoing collaboration aimed at enabling capacity development programs focused on renewable energy. The MoU with AAIT is a new milestone for GE in Ethiopia. The two began working together in late-2016 to develop and start the implementation of a skills development program. In March, the GE Renewable Energy Hydro Engineering staff spent a week at AAIT delivering a series of seminars on hydro turbines and generator technology to 30 students and faculty of AAIT. The ultimate vision of the collaboration between the two is to develop a renewables center of excellence at AAIT to serve as a practical learning hub for undergraduate students in the Ethiopian university system. GE is already an active participant in delivering renewable energy projects in Ethiopia and is working with Ethiopian Electric Power to develop new projects in the hydro, wind, and solar sectors.
