Any renewable energy projects planned by Morocco in the occupied Western Sahara will not benefit from funding from the European Union Commission. "With regard to renewable energy projects in Western Sahara, the EU does not fund such projects, and when contacted by European companies and citizens, it informs them accordingly of the legal status of Western Sahara, and in particular the exploitation of mineral resources," said current High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and VP of the European Commission, Federica Mogheri. The Western Sahara is considered by the EU to be a non-self-governing territory whose exploitation of resources must be for the benefit of the Saharawi people.
