Francesco La Camera has been named the new Managing Director of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). Prior to his appointment La Camera held the position of Director General for Sustainable Development, Energy and Climate in the Italian Ministry of the Environment.
He succeeds the Egyptian Adnan Amin and will take office on April 4, for a four-year term.
After leading the Italian delegation for the Climate Conferences between 2011 and 2013, Francesco La Camera was the head of the European and Italian delegations for the COP 20 held in Lima in 2014. He has represented his country in many international organizations such as the European Union, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, among others.
He will now be responsible for the IRENA Secretariat and for implementing the program and budget of the organization.
